New CDC Report: Increase in Alcohol Use and Binge Drinking among Pregnant Women

Not the news I had hoped to hear.
FASDinNC is seriously concerned that ongoing and increased normalization of alcohol use in our society contributed to this new data. It is therefore imperative to be mindful about statewide alcohol-related policies that reduce alcohol related harms. This is for the sake of current and future Carolinians.

“In a new Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) article, CDC researchers found that about 1 in 9 pregnant women reported drinking alcohol in the past 30 days. Among pregnant women, about one third who reported consuming alcohol engaged in binge drinking.”
